Location & Nearby Attractions

Located in El Mirador area within walking distance to the beach, Capone´s restaurant, Pink Cadillac, Mannys Beach Club, Elixir night club and Baja Cantina.

Because it is in a coastal area, Rocky Point’s cuisine emphasizes fresh seafood elements in it’s dishes, with shrimp being the main ingredient in several recipes.

Rocky Point has plenty of establishments to enjoy Mexican cuisine and local specialties, among which “Pescado Zarandeado” is a must: fish wrapped in a banana leaf and perfectly char-grilled. Try the “Caguamata,” prepared with a manta ray fillets and cooked with celery, green beans and carrots added to a tomato sauce with Pasilla chili peppers, gently fried and flavored with oregano, cumin and garlic.

Although seafood is the base of Rocky Point’s gastronomy, you can also find restaurants serving international dishes, Italian cuisine, juicy steaks and even fast food. Restaurants in Rocky Point will provide you with a mouthwatering experience!

Sight Seeing

Sunset cruise

Sunset cruises aren’t just for lovers; Rocky Point offers sunset sails to satisfy every whim, from swashbuckling pirate adventures to party cruises around the Sea of Cortez. Sunset cruises are a fun and relaxing way to enjoy the ocean and your travel mates after a long day of adventure.

Soar up to 800 feet in the air, high above Puerto Peñasco, with nothing but the clear blue ocean far below. Prices vary depending on the duration of the ride.

Water activities

Kite Surfing adventures

Imagine surfing the blue seas at blinding speeds, the force of the wind propelling you across the waves with a surf board strapped to your feet, your hands gripping a giant kite.

Snorkeling & Scuba diving

The changing tides provide a different experience every time you explore. With water this crystal clear, marine life so abundant, and reefs and coves so plentiful, a scuba diving excursion in the Sea of Cortez is another favored activity.

Banana boat rides

One of the most affordable beach activities in Rocky Point, Banana Boat rides cost around $5. Be sure to tell your boat operator if you prefer smooth sailing or a tempest of a ride. This is a great family experience, especially for young children.

Looking for the ultimate escape on the ocean? The beautiful Sea of Cortez is perfect for a sea kayak journey. You’ll be glad you brought along your waterproof camera when you venture out on your early morning tour as this is the best time to spot dolphins frolicking in the water. Kayak rentals are available from Kayak Rocky Point.

Jet Ski or Wave Runner

Most of the visitors to Rocky Point who are ready for their Jet Ski or wave runner adventure bring their own equipment. If you’re traveling light, you can rent either from local outfitters.

Day Trips

Boat excursion to Bird Island

Located 27 miles south east of Puerto Peñasco, Isla San Jorge (better known as Bird Island) provides a very important biological sanctuary for a wide variety of creatures including birds, sea lions and other marine life. Decreed a “Reserved Area of Shelter” for migratory birds and wild fauna in 1978, this group of several rocky islands is worth the one-hour boat ride, as you encounter dolphins along the way. If you visit Bird Island between October and April, you may spot grey, killer and pilot whales as well. Most tours incorporate snorkeling opportunities and even include an open bar!

Day trip to Oyster Farm

La Ostionera de Puerto Peñasco is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates the delicate flavors of fresh oysters. Watch as the oysters are pulled from the sand, shucked before your eyes, and served with hot sauce on the side. By car, you’ll see signs to the oyster farms on the road to Caborca, about 7 miles outside of Rocky Point.

Contact the Intercultural Center for the Study of Deserts and Oceans (CEDO) office in Rocky Point and arrange a tour of the El Pinacate Volcano and Gran Desierto de Altar Biosphere Reserve. Three different tours are offered depending on your physical abilities. Located in Puerto Peñasco, CEDO works closely with visitors, local communities, and the government to understand and minimize human impact on local environments and species through research, education, and conservation.
